Relates to adjustable windscreens for closing slots in aircraft traversed by guns or similar instruments mounted independently of the screen to move about a fixed training axis and also about an elevational axis. According to the invention, the screen is flexible or articulated and has a slot through which the gun projects so that the gun moves the screen during training in guides which conform to the streamline form of the nose or tail of the aircraft, notwithstanding the fact that the gun moves about a fixed training axis. Fig. 4 shows the body of the aircraft formed of fixed upper and lower portions a, b, the upper portion being transparent. The flexible band c, formed of sheet metal, c5 with vertical stiffeners c6, is guided by rollers in tracks a1,b1 on the fixed portions a, b. A pair of guns d mounted for training about a vertical pivot f6. Fig. 3, and for elevation about trunnions f5 protrude through vertical slots in the screen covered by rubber strips e which overlap at the slot centres. The gun mounting is connected with the screen by telescopic spring‐controlled extensions f1, f2. The flexible band is constituted by a central portion c and end portions g. g1 connected by hooks g2 with the central portion the arrangement being such that, as the band moves round to the extreme positions, the end portions are side‐tracked into the enlarged guides b2 and the hooks g2 are automatically disconnected to enable the centre portion of the band to pass the side portions. The hooks are automatically re‐engaged when the motion of the band is reversed. The gunner's seat i is fixed behind the gun mounting on outriggers i1. The invention is stated to be applicable to the mounting of cameras and camera guns.
