New R.A.F. Types IX: The Short Stirling Four‐Engined Long‐Range Heavy Bomber Available to Purchase

THE Stirling is the first of the new British heavy bombers, mentioned by Sir Archibald Sinclair, of which any details have been released. It is a very large aeroplane, carrying an exceptional bomb load, and bears a distinct resemblance to the Short flying boats. The main plane and tail unit have the same taper and tip shape as the Sunderland and Empire Boat. The long parallel fuselage is less attractive than the flying boat hull, but there would have been no point in increasing the frontal area by deepening or widening the fuselage when the rear turret necessitated a blunt tail.
