THIS issue is perhaps somewhat dominated by the series of Ministry of Aircraft Production reports on captured German aeroplanes which occupy almost 50 per cent of the editorial pages. Since, as we hope we are not betraying any confidence by saying, these reports have been issued to the aeronautical press as the direct result of the strong pleas for a change of policy in this direction we put forward in September and November last year, we felt that it would be the height of ingratitude and discourtesy to those concerned if we failed to make use of them. A monthly publication such as AIRCRAFT ENGINEERING is always at a disadvantage in regard to “general releases” of this nature, and as a rule we do not care to take part in the endless multiplication which such communiques receive by successive publication in various daily, weekly, and monthly papers. This series of reports is, however, on a different footing and, further, we feel that their appearance all together in the one issue here, where they make a more or less complete story, is fully justified in spite of the fact that most of their contents may have already appeared in one form or another elsewhere, necessarily in serial, and frequently in truncated, form.
