New Fleet Air Arm Types

The Grumman Tarpon TFB‐1 (better known by its U.S. Navy name “Avenger”) is almost unique among recent American types in that it was in service, and actually in action at Midway Island, before its existence was announced. However, the TFB‐1 is a great advance over earlier American torpedo ship‐planes and is incomparably better than the corresponding British types in service, the Swordfish and Albacore.
