The title of this book is somewhat misleading, for in addition to the elementary theory of compressible fluid flow, the authors have devoted several chapters to various aspects of combustion and flames. The book is intended as a text for advanced undergraduate and early graduate teaching, and is the outcome of lectures delivered by the authors at North‐western University, U.S.A.
