CARBURIZING, carbon restoration, carbonitriding, neutral hardening, marquenching, normalizing, annealing and brazing can all be performed in Ipsen scaled quench units. The latest developments in this range allow continued operation at 1,100 deg. C., principally because the materials used have been designed to withstand high temperatures and carbon‐rich atmospheres. This design temperature level attempts to anticipate the continual trend to higher temperatures in furnace operation. As typical values quoted in Table I below show, higher carburizing temperatures affect carbon penetration. For example, raising the temperature from 925 deg. C. to 1,035 deg. C. for carburizing almost doubles the case depth over the same period of time.
