International Machine Tool Exhibition: Brief Notes on a Selection of the Exhibits Displayed at Olympia from June 25 to July 8, 1960

As with so many other exhibitors the Wadkin stand showed evidence of the vast new developments in the machine tool industry with the emphasis on automatic operation on the one hand and economy on the other. The piano miller type W.T.6 is a new design intended for use with all classes of material using a wide range of spindle speeds. The table is 9 ft. 4 in. x 58 in. with 10 tee slots and the headslide unit can be operated at feed rates in the range 0 to 24 in. per min. with a 60 in. per min. fast traverse. A machine designed for automatic operation from punched tape or dial settings was the electronic positional drilling machine type T.C.D. The table measures 3 ft. 6 in. x 5ft. 6in. and is mounted on roller chain tracks protected by roller blind. The machine has a specially designed drill head which is remotely controlled and drilling capacity is 2 in. diameter. Other exhibits were an articulated arm router with the primary arm capable of rotation through a full 360 deg., an articulated arm radial router with hydraulic depth control designed for facemilling, profiling and pocketing in non‐ferrous metals, a universal pattern miller and a continuous rotary miller.
