This paper considers the calculation of moments of area of aerofoil sections. Formulae have been developed for the calculation on an electronic digital computer of the area, centre of area and principal second moments of area of aerofoil sections with contours composed of circular arcs and straight lines. The method can be used for other cross‐sectional areas of a similar nature and can be extended to include areas with contours consisting of other types of curves.
