An industrial periscope that is said to give a direct, illuminated view into the inaccessible parts of machinery has been developed by the Kershaw Division of the Rank Organization. This is the ‘Introperiscopc’, which is seen in FIG. 1 being used to examine the inside of the air intake of a Bristol Siddeley Proteus turboprop engine, as fitted to Bristol Britannia 312 airliners, in the B.O.A.C. workshop at London Airport. The technician is checking the entry guide vanes for obstructions, cracks and other irregularities. This would previously have involved several hours work on stripping the engine.
