Italian Carabinieri helicopters were in need of tactical communications systems capable of providing all the short range vhf and long hf communications necessary to keep a pilot in constant touch both with forward positions and with base control so that effective direction can be maintained from the ground under virtually all circumstances. The system had to be particularly sophisticated for the wide rnage of duties, invariable terrain and differing climatic conditions in which the Carabinieri usually work.
