The average aircraft will carry 175 passengers in 1985, according to the Civil Aviation Authority forecast, compared with 162 estimated by the Roskill Commission. The CAA base their calculation on the assumption that by 1980, 35 per cent of aircraft at London airports will be wide bodied carrying 59 per cent of passengers and that by 1986 it will have reached 70 per cent of aircraft with wide bodies accounting for 92 per cent of passengers. The forecast also assumes that there will be no significant impact by RTOL or STOL.
