Six new material specifications for re‐melting stock and castings have been published in the aerospace HC series of British Standards. They specify the requirements, including inspection and testing procedure, chemical composition, condition of supply, heat treatment and mechanical properties for steel castings as follows: HC 1–6 respectively — Carbon steel castings (500N/mm2); Carbon manganese steel castings (550N/mm2); 1% chromium‐molybdenum low alloy steel castings (700N/mm2): 3% chromium‐molybdenum castings (620–770N/mm2); 3% nickel case‐hardening steel castings (700N/mm2); 3% chromium‐molybdenum nitriding steel castings (850–1000 N/mm2).
