The delivery earlier this year of two Airbus Industrie A310 aircraft to British Caledonian Airways (B.CAL) with a third scheduled to arrive in 1985, means that the airline has taken another significant step towards the acquisition of an advanced technology fleet which is gradually replacing equipment which has been in service for some time. In addition, an order was placed in 1983 for seven A320 short to medium range aircraft with options on another three. Delivery of the A320s will commence in 1988 and they are expected to be operated with 150 seats on scheduled flights and 162 scats on charter operations. These new aircraft will eventually replace the airline's fleet of BAC One‐Eleven 500s. To enable the One‐Elevens to remain in service for some years, they will have refurbished interiors and be equipped with blind landing capability as well as hush kits, the latter enabling them to meet the new noise regulations being introduced in 1986.
