Prototype Aircraft Access Door Manufactured With Ryton PPS Woven Carbon Fabric Prepreg: Novel Construction Designed and fabricated by Boeing Aerospace using sheeting developed by Phillips Petroleum

A prototype aircraft access door has been designed and fabricated by Boeing Aerospace Compny using Ryton polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) woven carbon fabric prepreg sheeting supplied by the Advanced Composites Division of Phillips Petroleum Company. Substantial weight reduciton vs. metal construction and cost savings over thermoset composite fabrication were achieved.
