RECENT conference statements and the publication of the Kegworth report by the Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) have highlighted many issues affecting passenger safety. Yet again, emphasis has been laid on the very welcome reduction in the statistical rate of jet transport accidents over the past few decades and the lack of a corresponding improvement in the survival rate in these accidents.
