Ion Vac Technology Ltd., Manchester, UK, is currently offering vacuum coating services of Cadmium on aircraft parts for corrosion protection. The coating is carried out according to British DEF Standard 03–28 Part 2 and to specifications of Lockheed C0447D then chromate passivate to DEFStan 130. Corrosion testing is carried out according to the International Standard ISO 9227:1990(E) and the parts are tested in neutral salt spray test for 600 hours with no sign of corrosion. The company is acting as a sub contractor for major aircraft companies in the UK and Europe. Coating services are carried in house using the latest technology in Ion Vapour Deposition. IVT is currently applying for the quality standard BS 5750 (ISO 9000) to meet the increasing demand for high quality coating and to produce the necessary documentations. The company also offer a sub‐contract research and development facility for coatings and coating processes.
