Satellites for European ATC

It has been suggested that future developments in European air traffic services to enable them to handle the rapidly growing volume of movements may be accomplished by means of satellite systems. Adoption of satellite communications and navigation together with an Automatic Dependent Surveillance (ADS) service, which could be supported by then, would serve as a basic level throughout the European area. Additional features could be added to this, such as those concerned with high traffic density.
