In UK patent 2270028 General Electric Co. describes a lightweight tank, useful for holding fuels and the like in space‐deployed vessels. It is produced by depositing a metal layer on the outer surface of a disposable pattern, forming a lightweight tank shell thereon, typically by wrapping with a polymer‐impregnated reinforcing material and then curing followed by removal of the pattern. The metal layer serves as a leak barrier and protects the polymer from corrosive damage that may be produced by the propellant fuel or oxidant.
