This Special Issue features selected papers presented at the 13th EASN International Conference on “Innovation in Aviation & Space for opening New Horizons” (Home (2023) | easnconference.eu), which took place successfully from October 5th to 8th, 2023 in Salerno, Italy. The event included 8 Keynote Speeches, more than 380 technical presentations and feedback slots distributed in 65 sessions and workshops. Moreover, 65 Aviation & Space Projects disseminated their latest research results as well as the future trends in the respective technological fields. In total, 410 participants from 39 countries attended the 13th EASN International Conference.

The present Special Issue includes 11 papers originating from presentations made at the 13th EASN Conference.

In [1], the integration of urban air mobility into smart cities is examined, proposing relevant use cases to enhance transportation solutions. In [2], an in-flight testing of the Integrated Mission Management System is conducted. In [3], the study investigates the development and testing of electronic hardware for flight reconfiguration systems that comply with RTA DO-160G standards. Parametric structure optimization of main rotor blades using fluid-structure interaction analysis is presented in [4]. The effects of integrated mission management systems on pilots’ situational awareness are analyzed in [5]. A flight test evaluation of a trim tab stabilization system on the PZL-130 ORLIC aircraft is detailed in [6]. Sustainable operations for urban air mobility within integrated transport systems are explored in [7]. The aerodynamic optimization of wings with a flat upper surface is investigated through computational fluid dynamics in [8]. The impact of new environmental regulations on airlines’ financial performance is assessed in [9]. Simulations of the induction welding process for thermoplastic composite materials used in aircraft structures are conducted in [10]. Finally, the focus of [11] is on the design and validation of an evolved tactical separation system aimed at improving air traffic management.

The editors of this Special Issue extend their appreciation to the authors for their excellent contributions and for greatly assisting in managing this Special Issue. Additionally, the editors would like to express their gratitude to the AEAT editorial team for their valuable professional support.
