Utex Scientific Instruments has introduced Imagine3D, a new ultrasonic raytracing software program. Imagine3D shows users where the ultrasonic field is going in a part using three-dimensional graphics which can be rotated for viewing at any angle. Inspection parts can be drawn in the program or imported as .dxf CAD files. The new software can also model the sound field for a given transducer or suggest which transducer to use for a given inspection geometry.
Imagine3D claims to allow faster technique development, clearer visualization of the inspection, and reduced costs by eliminating incorrect transducer choices. The software provides simulated inspection A-scans and B-scans and reports that can be used to communicate better with technicians and customers.
Imagine3D allows the user to see what will be done before the job begins; since it can handle any number of longitudinal and shear mode conversions, it can accurately identify where unexplained A-scan signals are originating. Imagine3D is also an excellent training tool.
