CODAG-I is a platform for the execution of the Cosmic Dust Aggregation experiment under microgravity conditions. During this six-minute experiment, defined by German and French scientists, the early phase of dust aggregation in protoplanetary disks was simulated, and observed, in a small vacuum chamber.
The Netherlands National Aerospace Laboratory (NLR) delivered the Service Electronics System for the CODAG-I sounding rocket module to Fokker Space of Leiden. NLR was responsible for the design and development of the system control, data management and operator interface system. The Service Electronics System is based on elements previously developed for the successful Cells in Space programme. Since the CODAG experiment system consists of several computer-based subsystems, the existing distributed control concept was re-used although extended with telecommand capabilities for real-time in-flight interaction.
The European Space Agency(ESA) launched the CODAG-1 on the MASER-7 sounding rocket in April 1999.
