David Bailey to lead electrical brake programme team

Dunlop Aviation has appointed David Bailey as Project Leader ­ EABSYS (Electrically Actuated Braking Systems Project) (Plate 9). This DTI-funded project is aimed at developing an electro-mechanical braking system to replace traditional hydraulic actuation. He will also pursue opportunities for introduction of new technology in programmes such as the projected FOAS (Future Offensive Aircraft System).

David Bailey was previously senior lecturer in Aerospace Systems, at Coventry University and before that, was in the aerospace industry as a systems engineer involved in the research and development of advanced flight control actuators. Holding a BSc(Hons) in Electrical & Electronic Engineering and an MSc (Eng.) in Control Systems, he will represent Dunlop Aviation on the Systems & Airborne Equipment Activity Committee of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.

Operations director

Dunlop Aviation has also appointed Chris Lee MBA, BSc(Prod.) (Plate 10) as operations director, Braking Systems. He rejoins the company from Fosroc, a Burmah Castrol company, where he was operations director from 1996 to 1998.

After completing a technical apprenticeship at Dunlop in 1979, during which he gained an honours degree in production engineering, he worked in several departments including being responsible for leading the selection and implemention of the company's Unigraphics CAE system in 1986.

In 1991 he completed a three year evening MBA course at Warwick University and was appointed business unit manager for Ice Protection Systems. Then in 1994 he was transferred to the position of operations development manager, Braking Systems, before he left to gain senior management experience at Fosroc.
