Production and delivery rates for Airbus wings have almost tripled since the mid-1990s, leading to the recent completion of the 2,000th set of wings for the successful Airbus family of aircraft. With further production increases planned,it will take just another three years for the next 1,000 sets of multi-million pound wings to be produced and delivered by the UK.
The UK's Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, Stephen Byers MP, and over 700 guests representing thousands of British workers from 400 companies,recently attended a ceremony to mark the completion of 2,000 sets of wings for Airbus aircraft at British Aerospace's wing assembly plant in Broughton, North Wales.
The 2,000th wingset, the centrepiece of the ceremony, has been produced for a long-range Airbus A330 aircraft for airline customer GulfAir.
