Yokogawa has introduced a new digital oscilloscope (Plate 4) which it believes addresses the increasing need for high-channel-count measuring instruments.

It is reported that the new DL716 can capture and display up to 16 analogue input channels simultaneously. The large colour screen ensures that each trace is displayed with high integrity and clarity, while the interactive display makes set-up and operation easy to achieve using a minimum of keystrokes. Multi-language help instructions are also easily accessed via the display screen.
The instrument is based around a modular concept, with a wide choice of input signal-conditioning modules available to suit different users' applications. High-count analogue-to-digital converters can be installed to provide levels of accuracy and resolution not normally available on digital oscilloscopes.
A built-in printer provides instant hard copy of recorded traces. It can also be used in real time for online recording.
Each channel can be equipped with up to 64 Mword of memory, and an optional 3.2Gbyte hard disk can be used to store a large number of captured traces or to record data in real time for extended periods. Data may be replayed back to the screen for further examination using a rolling display mode.
Other signal-conditioning modules are available to allow the direct measurement of temperature, strain and logic signals. A high-speed module offers sampling at a rate of 10MS/s (megasamples per second) while still retaining high resolution by using a 12-bit analogue/digital converter.
The instrument provides full connectivity to PCs by incorporating RS232C and SCSI interfaces. Data can be transferred in digital or image form using a variety of standard formats such as TIFF, BMP and HPGL.
The manufacturers state that despite its exceptional channel count capabilities, the instrument remains compact and easily portable.
