Lord Mayor switches on laser

The Lord and Lady Mayoress of Sheffield recently visited Doncasters Bramah at Halfway, Sheffield to officially switch on their new, state-of-the-art laser(Plate 7).

The laser is a £750,000 investment, capable of machining complex three-dimensional shapes in nickel and titanium alloys. It offers higher speeds and greater accuracy than conventional machining and other benefits include reduced variation and quieter operation.

Doncaster's Bramah supplies fabricated and machined components to aerospace engine manufacturers world-wide. These include machined fabrications, hot hydrobulging, superplastic forming and diffusion bonding, and electroforming. Major customers include Rolls-Royce, Pratt & Whitney, Boeing, BFGoodrich and Westland Helicopters.

In order to maintain market position the company has invested a total of £2 million in new equipment and machinery over the past 12 months
