The UK and Romania signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) recently confirming each country's commitment to promoting and evaluating the commercial and technical cooperation between their aerospace industries.

The MoU, signed by David Marshall, director general of SBAC and Grigore Filip, president of the Association of Romanian Aerospace Companies (OPIAR), in the presence of the Romanian President, Ion Iliescu, will reinforce the commitment between the UK and Romanian aerospace industries. "This MoU is the first step towards what is expected to be a lasting and beneficial relationship between the SBAC, OPIAR and our member companies," says David Marshall.

The MoU aims to identify suitable potential partners and to encourage and enhance trade links between the two aerospace industries. The agreement will also help reinforce activities and encourage the promotion of investments between aerospace companies in the two countries.

UK aerospace companies, such as Meggitt and BAE Systems, have already identified Romania as a target market. For example, Meggitt Defence Systems plc has formed relationships with Condor (parachute manufacturers) and Aerofina(manufacturer of avionic boxes). BAE Systems has formed a steering committee with the Romanian National Association for Regional Development to identify indigenous supply opportunities.
