High precision induction heating has many applications in heat treatment,welding, brazing and soldering, and in simple processes such as shrink fitting of components for diverse applications, including aerospace (Plate 4).

The new SEIT system from PESL incorporates timer, power control, alarm and internal water chiller. These features combined with the easy to fabricate induction coils (any shape of copper wire and easily replaceable), are said to make the SEIT system adaptable for large workpieces or small ones. In addition the optional RS232 read out permits system integration if required.

For small and delicate operations SEIT claims a high accuracy solid state control system with an infrared pyrometric feedback to give accurate temperature control of the workpiece. This reportedly makes the equipment both compact and easy to use for difficult soldering jobs; welding of cables to lugs; small wire connections, e.g. wires onto relays; heavy cable soldering; fitment/welding of parts of different materials; fitment of precision parts, e.g. bearings; welding of teeth onto cutting gears or heat treatment of sensitive parts.

SEIT Induction systems are stated to be 95 per cent efficient, putting the heating effect exactly where it is required. Power ratings range from 3Kw to 25Kw in convenient bench top and castor mounted stand-alone configurations for situations from laboratories or assembly benches to machine shops.
