What is believed to be the first stereolithography (SL) materials to simulate the performance properties of ABS thermoplastics was announced recently by the RenShape Solutions, the Tooling Division of Vantico Ltd. A third new SL material that was introduced for generating polypropylene-like models, prototypes and parts features enhanced processing characteristics.

The two ABS-like SL photopolymers, SL 7560 and SL 7570, reportedly exhibit a novel combination of rigidity, durability and heat resistance. Specifically, SL 7560 is an opaque material with a highly rigid flexural modulus of 2400Mpa(350,000psi), elongation of 15 per cent, impact strength of 43J/m (0.8ft-lb/ in)and high heat deflection temperature (100oC (212oF) with a postcure/56oC (133oF) without postcure).

The new product is stated to be easy to process with a low viscosity, fast photo speed and high green strength.

SL 7570 is a water-clear product featuring an ABS-like flexural modulus of 2500Mpa (365,000psi) along with a 20 per cent elongation and good heat deflection temperature. Like SL 7560, it is said to be easy to handle with a low viscosity, fast photo speed and very high green strength.

New RenShape Solutions SL 7545 polypropylene-like material has a flexural modulus of 1380MPa (200,000psi) along with good elongation, impact strength and heat deflection temperature. Added benefits claimed are high green strength and expanded processing latitude.
