Keywords: Flight controls, Aerospace, EMC

CMC Electronics Inc. has been selected by Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation to provide its CMA-2082M Flight Management System (two per aircraft) and CMA-2088 Emergency Control Panel for the UH-60M Black Hawk aircraft. CMC anticipates that it will supply these systems for over 1,200 aircraft that will be upgraded. The total value of this effort may exceed US $110 million in sales over the life of the program.

CMC supplies its CMA-2082A Avionics Management System and CMA-2088 Emergency Control Panel for both the UH-60Q and HH-60L Medical Evacuation aircraft for the US Army. These were the first US Army medical evacuation aircraft to have their communications and navigation equipment integrated via a 1553 data bus. It was determined that as a result of the success of these programs, the systems would serve as the baseline for the UH-60M upgrade.

The CMA-2082M Flight Management System that CMC will provide for the UH-60M program exceeds all of the technological requirements for successful operations on the digital battlefield as well as operations in civil airspace" explained Robert Atac, Vice President, Military Aviation, CMC Electronics Inc.

Atac added: "By utilising an open architecture design and providing exceptional growth capability, the US Army will be able to upgrade the system easily and meet future requirements well into the 21st century."

CMC Electronics also reports that it has received an order from Swiss International Airlines to supply its high gain Satellite Communications (Satcom)antenna system known as the CMA-2102 to Swiss International Air Lines for its fleet of 12 A340 aircraft. Deliveries will be completed by January 2004.

Bruce Bailey, CMC Electronics Vice President, Commercial Aviation, explains:"Our customers consistently praise the reliability, performance and technical superiority of our top-mounted CMA-2102 antenna. The new Inmarsat Swift64 service has opened up new markets for CMC and the performance of the CMA-2102 in handling the demands of higher data rates and providing coverage over far northern routes is unbeatable."

CMC's high gain Satcom antenna's top-mounted technology and architecture is said to virtually eliminate multipath interference and allow simplified installation. The CMA-2102 fully supports Swift64 high speed data service without modification. It enables applications ranging from intranet virtual private network (VPN) access for crews to multi-channel voice services and fast e-mail for passengers. This new Inmarsat service has been designed to meet the needs of aircraft passengers, corporate users and the flight deck, while making use of existing AeroH/H+ Satcom components already found on a large number of airline and corporate jet aircraft.
