Floorpath marking system

Keywords: Aircraft, Safety

Alaska Airlines reports that it has just completed installation of the patented photoluminescent (PL) floorpath marking system, SafTGlo, on its entire fleet of 108 aircraft. The whole program took less than three weeks to complete.

Alaska Airlines ordered the retrofit following a business-case presentation that highlighted the lower maintenance costs and reduction in dispatch delays that SafTGlo offers. The decision to retrofit was also driven by the simplicity of the installation process, which requires no special tools, and how quick and easy it was to switch from its old floorpath marking system to the new SafTGlo one.

Gary Girard, president of STG Aerospace, Inc., said: “We are delighted that Alaska Airlines has chosen SafTGlo. They are our biggest customer to date, and are now experiencing the benefits to their operation. The Alaska Airlines program gives us the opportunity to demonstrate to other airlines, the benefits of SafTGlo in terms of speed of fitting, as well as, the 100 per cent reliability and through-life cost savings due to lower maintenance.”

A spokesperson from Alaska Airlines commented: “It is great to work with such a customer-focused company whose product truly does have tangible benefits for our airline.”

The company's PL systems “store” and simultaneously emit light giving highly visible emergency exit guidance for up to 16 hours in darkness, after a short period of “charging” with normal cabin lighting.

SafTGlo is described as an easy to install low cost alternative to electrical floorpath marking systems. It is said to be 100 per cent reliable and is already installed in thousands of aircraft for hundreds of airlines around the world.
