Cranfield University unique in airport planning and management

Keywords: Airports, Transport management

True to its mission of transforming world-class science, technology and management expertise into practical solutions, Cranfield University is said to be the only university in the world to run an English language masters course in airport planning and management.

Originally run by Loughborough University, the MSc in Airport Planning and Management is offered at Cranfield for the first time, starting in October 2006. The course is aimed at graduates with and without experience in the air transport industry preparing them for careers with airport operators, planning and management consultants and regulators.

Course Director Dr Romano Pagliari said: “Significant airport developments are already being planned across the world to provide the level of airport capacity needed to meet future air traffic projections. Furthermore, corporatisation means that increased focus must be directed by airports toward pursuing more effective business development strategies. These decisions also have to be taken within the context of increased environmental and safety-related regulatory requirements.

“We believe that this unique course will be an ideal complement to our existing programmes in air transport management and safety & accident investigation”.

Available on a full-time basis only, the one-year course consists of a taught component, a group project, and an individual research project.
