Dugard Eagle 1300 VMC can be tailored to user specification
Typical of the C. Dugard capability to provide a basic high-performance machine tool with a list of options to enable customers to create a specification ideal for their requirements is the latest Dugard Eagle 1300 vertical machining centre. This new machine provides options of Fanuc, Siemens or Heidenhain control systems, a range of spindle powers and speeds, a selection of tool magazines and the ability to easily integrate an additional fourth axis. Also available to customers is a choice of swarf handling systems and a selection of operator enhancements.
Now available from C. Dugard of Hove, this high power, large capacity machine has a table size of 1,450mm by 570mm, X-axis travels of 1,300mm and Y and Z-axis travels of 635mm that are covered at rapid traverse rates of 30m/min.
With control options of Fanuc O/MB, Siemens 802D and 81OD, the latter containing “Shopmill” conversational programming and Heidenhain/TNC 530 incorporating the acclaimed Heidenhain conversational programming system, specifiers are able to select the most pertinent system to suit production or tool making requirements.
The standard spindle specification is a 15kW, 80 to 8,000 revs/min unit with faster options of 10,000 revs/min and 12,000 revs/min. Depending on the spindle selected, C. Dugard trials have achieved material removal rates in S45C steel of 308cm3/min when face milling with a 75mm diameter cutter, 156cm3/min when end milling with a 25mm cutter and 113cm3/min when using a 40mm diameter drill from solid.
These high performance operations are obtained due to the construction of the machine which utilises FC-30 castings for the base, column and table with extensive ribbing to maximise rigidity and absorb vibration. The X and Yaxes use the latest THK NR35 rigid linear guide ways for fast positioning at 30m/min and to support the heavy loads expected to be taken under cut. The Y-axis employs THK 4NR type linear ways with eight, load carrying bearing blocks to fully support the table and maximise the stability of the machining process.
Tool change can be via a 20 station carousel with single arm, or as an alternative via 24 or 32 position, twin- arm types with a maximum tool size of 76mm.
The coolant system is standard with rear chip flushing and options of high pressure cutting fluid through the tool to aid the removal of chips and maximise feed rates and tool life. An oil skimmer is also available. Further options include a fourth-axis rotary table and automatic tool measurement.
