This survey was undertaken in order to obtain quantitative data about special libraries and information sections in industrial and commercial organizations. We wanted to know, for instance, their number and size, how they were organized and staffed, how much they cost; the size and nature of their holdings; what procedures they adopted, what services they provided, and what use was made of those services.
