Madam, On p. 89 of the Aslib Proceedings for April 1961, Sir Stanley Unwin is reported as saying that the paper for eight additional index pages in a book is unlikely to cost less than £7 per thousand copies. Clearly this is a misreport. Sir Stanley was almost certainly referring to the costs of machining and of paper for the eight pages. Even so I suggest that the figure of £7 is a little high for a minimum one; with many scientific books of average quality production where the additional eight pages need not be printed as a separate signature, they could be included at a marginal cost of £5‐£6 per thousand copies.
