Basically there are two industrial classification systems in operation in the Soviet Union: the classification of industrial documents and their related commodities, and the classification of industrial workpieces. However, these two systems exist in diverse forms. In this paper it is proposed to examine some of the codes which either have direct state approval through ministerial or All‐Union research institute agencies, or have been specifically designed for standardizing component production.
