Dear Sir, As one of the founders of the Co‐ordinate Indexing Group, I fully support Miss Lewis's question (November, p.387) as to how much of Mr Jolley's terminology is necessary in this field. Specialist terminology transferred from one field to another without any real necessity degenerates into jargon—or name‐dropping. Since the people who have pioneered the most successful form of co‐ordinate indexing managed to do so without such terminology and since those of us who followed them managed to learn the elegantly simple principles without recourse to it, it is reasonable to ask whether Mr Jolley could not avoid its propagation and Aslib its publication.
