I must confess that after the learned and factual speeches delivered at this Conference I feel that what I have to offer may seem very small beer. I hope, however, that you will find the brew palatable and not too frothy. A thriller writer relies on his imagination rather than facts, though incorrect facts can be his undoing. It has been said that a writer cannot know too much about anything, and, in my time, I've put questions to a great many people and done a considerable amount of research in libraries to ensure that the foundations of my stories, the facts, have been right.
