This paper describes an IDRC‐funded project designed to allow Papua New Guinea (PNG) to catch up with the opportunities that Internet connections can provide in the service of social and economic development, and to develop fuller Internet participation by individuals. The general objective is to improve access to international networking and information technologies by the country’s research and development community and to assist in formulation of new research agendas by increasing PNG information content and publication on the Internet.
