People with learning disabilities are more likely to have mental health problems than the rest of the population (Foundation for People with Learning Disabilities, 2002). However these issues are often not recognised until the situation becomes more difficult or serious. Frontline social care staff are often unaware of the basic things they can do to promote positive mental health and families are unaware of the services that are available to help them. People with learning disabilities and mental health problems also often fall in the gaps between different services. This Knowledge Centre will aim to be somewhere they feel they ‘belong’ and that is for them.
