This study aims to investigate the adoption intention of blockchain technology (BT) in logistics and supply chain businesses through the perspective of technology adoption. More importantly, the moderating role of top management support (TMS) in the BT adoption process is explored.
A survey was conducted among logistics managers and executives in Malaysia, and the data collected were analyzed using partial least squares-structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM).
The results reveal that performance expectancy, facilitating conditions, price value and TMS are significant predictors of BT adoption intention in the logistics industry. Furthermore, higher levels of support from top management boost the magnitude of the relationship between performance expectancy and BT adoption intention.
Recognizing the transformative potential of BT in advancing the logistics industry, firms should proactively develop strategies aimed at fostering a culture of collective leadership through resounding TMS. This approach enables them to effectively navigate the intricacies associated with BT adoption, capitalizing on the emerging opportunities and benefits offered by this innovative and disruptive technology.
This research highlights the significant role of TMS in strengthening the linkage between performance expectancy and BT adoption intention, thereby contributing to the limited body of knowledge on the interactive dynamics of BT adoption in the logistics industry of an emerging economy.
