To identify a possible method of generating funds from an academic library's registered users.
Focusing on the Delta State University Library, a study was conducted to determine whether the recent introduction of a library registration fee adversely affected the use of the library, and whether it would be a source of additional revenue for the library.
Library use did not decrease on the imposition of the library registration fee. While all students do not register to use the library – or pay the fee – the registration mechanism helps staff generate money to pay for additional services, and helps to maintain usage of the library to its capacity to serve users.
This study shows that the implementation of library registration fees did not cause user registration to diminish. In fact, it has continued to increase.
