To present both the pros and cons that may come from Google's recent effort to digitize vast collections from five large research libraries.

Design/methodology/approach

Presents several questions and issues relevant to libraries and suggests what impact Google Print may have in providing information.

Findings

Google Print has great potential for broadening access to the world's written legacy.

Originality/value

Digitization projects have been around for several years. As such, it is interesting to see how Google Print is both the same and different, and what benefits Google's digitization effort may hold for information professionals.
