The policy/procedure manual, part II: Procedures that complement good policies Available to Purchase

This article's purpose is to show the “why” and “how” of making well thought‐out procedures.

The article introduces the training need for good procedures, further defines them, and then describes how to think about them in order to produce a useful set of them.

The findings are that good procedures are useful to, and necessary for, a well‐run library.

Libraries need to have, and consistently follow, good procedures in order to function efficiently.

Libraries will only survive as long as they are offering good service for a reasonable cost, the end goal of good procedures.

The value of the article is in learning how to come up with good procedures as a basic tool that will help library staff to perform their duties as efficiently as possible.
