Taxpayers ready to support libraries

In a recent election, the people of Auburn, Alabama voted overwhelmingly (97 percent) for construction of a new library during a recent special municipal bond election. The library will cost taxpayers $3.2 million. In Broward county,Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the voters overwhelmingly passed a $140 million bond issue to build and renovate their libraries; in Livermore, California, voters passed a $150 million bond measure to provide a new $20 million Civic Center Library, a Community Recreation Center, and funds to maintain and repair schools. In Southfield, Michigan, the voters supported a library millage increase to finance a new building estimated at $30 million. San Antonio's approved six-part $140.2 million municipal bond package includes $13.2 million for construction of three branch libraries and other improvements.
