The Technical Services Division (TSD) of the Civil Engineering Department is the maintenance authority for most of the Government and public marine facilities in Hong Kong. This paper provides an overview of the strategy of TSD towards the maintenance of the large stock of marine structures. It presents the development process of a specification for marine concrete and an assessment of its in-situ performance as compared to conventional concrete. It describes the condition audit system for marine structures; the preventive maintenance measures instigated for new marine facilities and the maintenance strategy towards the existing stock of marine structures.
