Mr M. Mansell-Moullin (Binnie and Partners, London) There has been little information published on the regional and wider water resources developments which will be needed to meet the Decade's objectives. This kind of information should be made available as part of the publicity for the Decade.
Examples of weaknesses in water supply schemes suggest the need for better basic data and planning. I suggest that assistance to and strengthening of the national hydrological services should be considered as part of the assistance which some countries may require. As the World Meteorological Organization, which is the UN agency most concerned with operational hydrology, is not a member of the Decade steering committee, perhaps full recognition is not always being given to the importance of the basic data on which the schemes will depend.
