1. As general points regarding the first three papers, how adequate are present data on waves, and how adequate are data for remoter regions of the world? Also, when the data are collected, is proper use being made of them? What is the potential contribution of the satellite programme concerning the collection of ocean data?

In their useful review paper, the Authors of Paper 1 cover a wide range of topics, but I wish to draw attention to four specific points on which I would appreciate further comments.
