This paper consists of “appetisers” for the different conference session topics, thereby providing an overview. Projects that involve the handling of concrete demolition waste often lack an overview and strategic management: the demolition, processing and recycling of the materials are often analysed separately. The best recycling results can be achieved by analysing the whole disposal/supply-chain, including the substituted material. The market for recycled materials around the world is discussed and an analysis of the potential market in Hong Kong presented as an example. The control and handling of polluted material and environmental issues are discussed. Furthermore, the paper presents some considerations with respect to future demolition and the production of new concrete products.
