Successful interaction between structural and geotechnical engineers is only possible if such engineers have at least a basic knowledge of both disciplines. Therefore the foundation for the interaction is laid during engineering education. A questionnaire was developed by the members of WC-B with the aim of gathering information on the interaction between structural and geotechnical engineers in several European countries. This questionnaire was distributed by the members of WC-B to engineers in their home country. On the basis of the responses to the questionnaire and their own experiences a National Report was prepared by the WG-B members; these reports are compiled in Chapter 5. One topic of the National Reports is aspects of engineering education concerning the interaction between structural and geotechnical engineers. In this chapter the input from the National Reports is summarised and some remarks from the present authors are added. Because the present authors are geotechnical engineers this chapter is more focused on geotechnical engineering than on structural engineering.
