n a foreword to the White Paper entitled Water Conserva
Ition - England and Water of April, 1962 (Cmnd. 1693)
is the following definition— 'Water Conservation means the preservation, control and development of water resources (both surface and ground) whether by storage, including natural ground storage, prevention of pollution, or other means, so as to ensure that adequate and reliable supplies of water are made available for all purposes in the most suitable and economical way whilst safeguarding legitimate interests.'
It would be difficult to improve on this definition and its similarity to certain words in the Charter of this Institution makes it particularly appropriate that the subject should be discussed here.
